INFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES

COMMERCIAL ANNUAL RECYCLING REPORT

In the Borough of Clarks Summit all commercial, institutional, and industrial establishments are mandated by Act 101 to recycle corrugated cardboard, high grade office paper, and aluminum cans.

Businesses are asked to fill out a recycling report to the best of their ability, with weights for recycled materials. A business can obtain a copy of their recycled weights by calling their hauler/broker/market. For example, if a business brought their recyclables to the Lackawanna County Recycling Center, they should phone 963-6868, press "5" and ask the operator to send them their annual report. A copy of this report must be attached to the annual recycling report.

If a hauler brings the recyclables to the center, the business establishment must ask the hauler for their weights. This can be done by contacting the hauler and asking for their annual recycling tonnage on the hauling company's letterhead OR by sending the annual recycling report to the hauler and having them complete and sign the bottom half of the report.

Reports are done annually and are asked to completed and return to the Borough by January 31. For assistance in completing the report, contact the Borough Office at 586-9316. The office is located at 304 S. State Street and operating hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

Based upon the "verified" recycling tonnage collected from the Borough, annually we report to the Commonwealth our recycling efforts. Based upon this report to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) the Borough receives state dollars back into the General Fund. This "Performance" Grant is a revenue for the Borough, which helps us hold down property taxes! PLEASE RECYCLE!!!!

Trash & recycling collection in the Borough is governed by "the Code of Ordinances Borough of Clarks Summit", Chapter 20 Solid Waste. It is also governed by the Borough's contract with J.P. Mascaro & Sons.
