THREE DIGIT
"CALL BEFORE YOU DIG"

TELEPHONE NUMBER

8-1-1
As warmer weather allows borough residents to begin more outdoor projects, the 8-1-1 abbreviated dialing system is being launched. Residents can dial 8-1-1 to make certain underground utility lines are marked before digging 18 inches or deeper. The 8-1-1 telephone number is an abbreviated system for calling the PA One Call System, which homeowners and contractors are required to call at least three business days before beginning any digging or excavation project. Before digging begins, PA One Call System contacts the utility company, who will then mark the locations of lines with either paint or flags. The free service allows residents to learn the location of utility lines before digging begins, making do-it-yourself projects much safer for both those who dig and the surrounding neighborhood. For more information, visit www.call811.com or www.pa1call.org.
