Recycling

Why Should I Recycle?

Recycling is an easy and helpful way to help the environment. By recycling, you allow the makeup of your items to have a new life and for new products to be made without producing more of that material. One person’s trash is another’s (future) treasure!

Where can I recycle electronics:

Staples -Scranton/Dickson City (free- no tvs)

Best Buy- Scranton/Dickson City (free-no tvs)

Stanton’s -Scranton (depending on what is taken you either will get paid or will owe a small amount)

Waste Reduction and Recycling-Hanover Twp  (THEY WILL TAKE ANY TV’S for $1.49/pound)

Brenner Recycling -Hazleton (THEY WILL TAKE ANY TV’S FOR A FLAT FEE THAT VARIES)

JP Mascaro – Notification regarding trash and recycling pickup – Due to a severe labor shortage, JP Mascaro, the Borough’s contracted trash hauler, is experiencing disruptions to their collection schedule.  Should your trash or recyclables not be picked up on their regularly scheduled day, please leave them out at the curb for the next day.

News from Lackawanna County Recycling Center:   We have been notified by the Lackawanna County Recycling Center that they will only accept brush that is 2 feet or less in length and 2 inches or less in diameter.  The brush cannot have any yard debris or leaves mixed with it.  They are inspecting each truck and if any brush is found to be too long or wide or yard debris or leaves are found in the load, the entire load will be rejected.  Since this is the only location we have to dump the brush, the DPW cannot pickup brush that is too large or mixed with other items.

Changes coming to Borough Trash and Recycling Services:  Single-Stream Recycling Collection
Starting Thursday, March 5, 2020, Clarks Summit Borough recycling collection is changing to one time every other week collection.  Please follow the calendar and zone map to follow the schedule for curbside recycling collection.  Recyclables should be placed out the night before your scheduled collection day.
Clarks Summit Borough offers “single-stream” recycling program. Everything that your household recycles will now go in the same container. No need to separate papers, metals, cardboard, glass and plastics, etc.

J. P. Mascaro & Sons will pick up recyclables every other week on  Thursday or Friday with a separate truck that collects recyclables, the truck will only collect recyclables during collection. This truck has a compactor, so more recycling material will fit in allowing for more efficiency.
